Yes, that's right. Our honey is NOT organic. The name often raises questions about its authenticity. We can confirm that our honey is not organic, but IS 'responsible'. We deliberately choose this term. And for this reason.
One thing is certain: Flemish honey is not organic. Anyone who claims that he or she sells Flemish, organic honey should be questioned. To obtain an organic certificate for honey, you have to meet strict conditions that are practically unattainable in our country. In Wallonia there are two beekeepers who can meet these conditions.
Some examples:
> Bees can fly up to 3 km without getting lost. Beehives must therefore be located in an area where there are no industrial areas, highways or non-organic agricultural areas within a radius of 3 km. So impossible.
> Beehives must be made of natural materials. Maintenance and disease control must also be done with natural products.
> The beeswax for new honey frames must be organic.
> Honey is primarily to feed the bees. During the winter period, the bees have to survive from this, not from sugar water or chemical products.
Our honey is therefore not organic. We call it 'responsible'. After all, all hobby beekeepers we work with meet all the above conditions (except the first of course). So you can certainly buy our honey with confidence. We treat our bees with the respect they deserve.
If you can prove to us that your honey is organic, be sure to let us know below. If you have any questions, you can always contact us via our e-mail address [email protected].
