Honey all year round!
Everyone knows (and likes) honey. But do you even realize how many types of honey there exist? Probably not! Stop by your local beekeeper for a jar of honey and you will be amazed at how many varieties you can find. There are many plants and flower species that bees feed on, and so there are many types of honey. After all, it is the nectar of the flowers that will determine the taste and texture of the honey.
What type of honey should you choose?
Are you looking for a certain honey but can't see the trees for the forest? Don't worry! We list all types provided by Nectarist so you can easily choose your favourite type of honey!
Fruit honey is a fruity honey that is harvested first of the season. By visiting the flowers of numerous fruit trees, the bees pollinate apples, pears, cherries, etc. It has a slightly less sweet taste and is usually liquid, which makes it ideal as a marinade or dressing.
Rapeseed honey is a cream honey with a creamy texture and soft, neutral taste. This makes it ideal as a sweetener for hot drinks*. Rapeseed honey contains many vitamins and promotes free breathing. You can obtain rapeseed honey from the end of April, beginning of May.
Acacia honey is a mild and liquid honey with a delicate and refined taste. Thanks to its high fructose content, it remains liquid for a very long time. That makes acacia honey excellent to use in tasty dishes. Acacia honey is available from the month of June or July.
Linden honey usually is a solid honey with a sweet, fresh, minty taste. It is mainly available at the beginning of summer, just after the linden blossom has bloomed. Linden honey is ideal for processing in hot drinks* to experience its soothing effect.
Summer honey is a mixed honey containing all kinds of summer bloomers such as linden, goldenrod, balsam, dandelion, etc. Due to its multiplicity of nectar types, it forms an explosion of flavors. Summer honey can be either solid or liquid. It is harvested in July.
One of nature’s most beautiful products
Honey is a natural product so that gives us huge advantages. That being, it also creates a disadvantage. As humans, we depend on the bees to produce honey. The bees however, depend on all sorts of external factors. This means that sometimes less honey is available. Fortunately, at Nectarist we always try to provide an alternative, so that everyone can enjoy our traditional honey all year round.
*note: only add honey to your hot drink when it has cooled down sufficiently (below 40°C) in order to preserve all the beneficial properties and vitamins. Don’t and they will all disappear.
